Birthday Party Tips: Decide on a date and time for the party.  The most popular days for birthday parties are Saturday and Sunday. To avoid meal time, plan your party from 1:00PM - 3:00PM or 2:00PM - 4:00PM. If lunch is being served, lunch and dinner times would be fine. Evening and week night parties are becoming more popular due to sports and other daytime activities. Decide where you will have the party.  Do you want to have the birthday party at your house. Children enjoy having their friends over to see their home. Where will the children eat? Have a wash cloth handy in case of spilled drinks. You may want to take down breakable valuables in places where the children will be. If you carpet is new, ask the children to remove their shoes (clowns and other entertainers may not be able to do this so plan accordingly). The home works very well for smaller parities. If you have over 15 guest, you may want to consider another location. Here are a few suggestions: church, school, day care, pizza place, bowling alley, zoo, library, park, museum, community building, civic center, country club, YMCA, and many hotels rent party rooms. Name tags are a good idea especially for parties in public places, this will help the entertainer identify party guest for other children. Make your reservations early. Decide how many children you will invite. Do you want to limit the guest to close friends and family or invite the whole class, scout friends, neighbours, church friends, etc. Put RSVP on the invitations to get a close count on how many children to expect. Send out the invitations two weeks before the party. Decide what you will do at the party. As the children arrive, have something for them to do. For children over 3, here are a few suggestions: 1) Penny drop - the children hold a penny on their chin, standing straight, and drop it into the jar below. Each child has several pennies. 2) Craft - make a necklace or snake out of Fruit Loops. Put tape on the ends of yarn to make it easy to string. You may want to have a prize for the longest one. For older children: Have paper and pencils on the table. 1) Guessing Jar - have 1,2, or 3 jars filled with something such as pennies or candy, and have the children guess how many are in the jar. Make sure they write their name on their paper.2) Guessing box - Place a box filled with small things (nothing sharp) have a whole big enough for the children to put their hand in it.
